Girl, 16, Killed By Train As She Saves Dog

A 16-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a train while trying to retrieve her dog from the tracks.




Natasha Elliott died when she was hit just outside Morley station, near Leeds, yesterday.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Natasha was believed to have been trying to retrieve her dog from the tracks.

"She was struck by the 17.52 York to Blackpool North Northern Rail service."

He said officers first received reports of the accident at 6.44pm. Natasha, from Morley, was taken to hospital but she died later.

"Our thoughts are with Natasha's family and friends at this difficult time," the spokesman said.

"The incident is not been treated as suspicious and a file will be now prepared for the coroner."

Morley High School headteacher John Townsley said: "Natasha was a much loved and admired member of the school.

"She was a wonderful person with a cheeky smile and a mischievous sense of humour.

"Natasha was looking forward to going to sixth form and had a fantastic life in front of her.

"Her death is a profound loss to the community and we will all miss her immensely."

Friends set up a page for Natasha on the website Gonetoosoon.

One said: "Never thought that I'd be saying this about you babe, can't believe you've gone.

"I will never forget you and our memories that we had in Greece, I remember us writing in the sand."

Another wrote: "RIP Natasha - You might be gone, but you won't be forgotten xxx."

A police spokesman said the dog survived.
