Bomb found on car during routine service

Mechanics at an American garage were alarmed to discover a pipe bomb attached to a car when it was dropped off for a routine service last week.
Staff at F&F Tire World in Loves Park, Illinois, noticed the bomb strapped to the inside of the car's exhaust when they jacked it up to inspect the underside of the vehicle.

Speaking to the 'Rockford Register Star', mechanic Andrew Mandujani said: "We put it on the lift and found a little pipe strapped to the exhaust."
Workers then removed the bomb from the car and placed it in a bucket before calling the police.

Local authorities closed off a whole block for several hours, evacuating homes and businesses, while specialist bomb squads went in to disarm the device and search the premises.

Police analysed the bomb to determine exactly how it was made, before detonating it in a controlled environment. No one was harmed.

Deputy Chief Rodney Scott of the Winnebago County Sherriff's Department said that no charges had been filed and no suspects had been arrested. The local police are continuing to investigate the events.
